All Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs are required to integrate simulation activities by the COA. While no clinical procedures may be met entirely through simulation, some simulated procedures are permitted to count for NCE eligibility purposes. Based on the recent AANA Simulation Subcommittee Report, there are wide variations in key factors including personnel, equipment and curricular integration approaches. High quality and effective simulation resource materials should be available to all programs. Development of standardized and validated scenarios, best practice design elements and valid/reliable assessment instruments for dissemination to the NAEP community.
Learning Objectives:
Review the emergence of simulation as a key educational approach in Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
Discuss the current state of simulation in Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
Describe approaches to development and curricular integration of high-quality simulation materials that can be used by programs across the US.
